OUI Attorney in South Coast

Once Convicted of DUI, Now What?

Our experienced team of professional OUI Defense attorneys will do everything possible to have your sentence reduced or charges dismissed altogether.  However, this is not always the case.  You should be prepared to know what you might expect if you are convicted of drunk driving.  For first time offenders, there may be some leniency of the consequences, but for repeat offenders you will find fewer options available to you.

Common Consequences of DUI Conviction

Even if you have a first offense DUI, due to Melanie's Law penalties are much steeper than they were previously.  You may be fined and serve a prison sentence, your license may be suspended for up to 1 year.  If you qualify for the alternative disposition, you may receive a lighter sentence of probation, an alcohol education program, some fines and a shorter license suspension of approximately 45 days.  Repeat offenders can expect much stiffer fines and jail sentences, in addition to revocation of their license.

As for the effects on your everyday life, you may suffer considerable difficulties.  If your license is suspended, you may lose your job.  Your auto insurance rates are sure to skyrocket.  Without a license, you may have no driving privileges, or very restricted ones.  Financially, you will have to pay stiff penalties and other administrative costs, in addition to any lost employment.  If you qualify for a Hardship License, you will be required to use an Interlock Device every time you drive for two years or longer.  This is not only highly restrictive, but could be quite embarrassing around your family and friends.  Remember, driving is not a right but a privilege. It can therefore be taken away at any time.

Taken altogether, it is obvious that this type of crime is not one to take lightly.  Serious consequences do result, consequences which can affect your life for a very long time.  The conviction will remain on your record and affect your employment and finances for years to come.  It is important to avoid this situation happening to you again in the future at all costs.

If you are just beginning to confront your situation, contact our Southeastern Massachusetts DUI Attorney office immediately.  We will do our utmost to get your charges reduced or dismissed.  We have helped many clients and can help you too.  Call us for your FREE consultation today at (800) 838-6684.
